Single camera formats  
Series:
A series drama includes episodic drama series with a continuing plotline, which are TV dramas where the plotline carries on and the characters stay the same. Each episode normally has a self-contained story or storylines, which reach a conclusion within that episode. An optional extra seen more recently is the inclusion of some element of continuing story development across the series and going through the episodes; but traditionally an episode for a series would leave the main characters in a cliff hanger at the end of that episode. Normally ideas and scripts for episodes of series come from many different writers; a series drama can be a way for a new writer to break into television.

Example: an example could be lost or prison break, gossip girl, law and order, Buffy the vampire slayer, Waterloo road, x-factor, doctor who

Xfactor is based around finding new talent all over the UK and then placing them with other contestants to fight for a 1 million pound recording contract with one of the judges (Simon Cowell).This show also allows the general public to decide to watch the constants perform on stage and at the end of the show call in and decide who gets to go through to the next round and carry on to win the 1 million pound recording deal.

Waterloo road is a British TV series which is based around a school which focuses on the lives of the school's teachers and students, and confronts social issues such as extramarital affairs, abortion, divorce, child abuse, and suicide.

Serials:
A serial is a long-running drama, such as 24, told in episodes. It has one central story, with many sub-plots, which continue and develop across the upcoming episodes. The episodes are normally storyline by the show’s creators, and the individual episodes are written by a team of writes, which are guided by the creator of the serial.
 Serials are a series of television programs and radio programs that rely on a continuing plot that unfolds in a sequential way, in a series the television format stays the same, and we know what to expect but at the same time we are left with revelations that make us want to watch the next episode.

Example:  an example could be, being human, the newsroom, vampire diaries, Top Boy, revenge, Boardwalk Empire,

Being human 
is a British supernatural drama television series. The central idea of Being Human is that various types of supernatural beings exist alongside human beings, with varying degrees of menace; that three of these supernatural beings are opting to live amongst human beings rather than apart from them; and that these three characters are attempting (as much as is possible) to live ordinary human lives despite the pressures and dangers of their situations. They are constantly threatened with exposure or persecution, with pressure from other supernatural creatures, and with problems caused by their attempts to deal with their own natures.

Vampire Diaries is a supernatural drama television series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on the book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith. The series premiered on The CW Television Network on September 10, 2009. The series takes place in Mystic Falls, Virginia, a fictional small town haunted by supernatural beings. The main focus of the series is the love triangle between the protagonist Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and vampire-brothers Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). As the narrative develops in the course of the series, the focal point shifts on the mysterious past of the town involving Elena's malevolent doppelgänger Katherine Pierce and the family of Original Vampires, all of which have an evil agenda of their own.

Revenge is an American TV serial which is about  a girl called Emily Thorne  who is played by (Emily Van Camp) comes to the Hamptons, renting a home next to the Grayson family to enjoy the summer. However, it is revealed that Emily has been to the Hamptons before as a little girl. In reality, Emily is Amanda Clarke, whose father was framed for a crime he did not commit and sent to prison for life. She was permanently separated from him and never saw him again. Now, she has returned to the Hamptons, intent on getting revenge on those who wronged her and her father. At the top of her list is Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe), matriarch of the Grayson family and the woman whom her father loved and who, in the end, betrayed him. Emily wants to get revenge on them all.
As she sets her plan in motion, Emily tries to navigate the upper society to destroy those who betrayed her father. But the further she goes, the more her emotions get involved and the more she questions her motives and the moves she makes.

Boardwalk Empire is an American television series from premium cable channel HBO, set in Atlantic City, New Jersey during the Prohibition era. It stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson. The show was adapted by Emmy Award-winning screenwriter and producer Terence Winter (of The Sopranos) from a book about historical criminal kingpin Enoch L. Johnson by Nelson Johnson, titled Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City.

A single drama series is a television series, which can come in a variety of lengths, and is designed to be watched in a single sitting. Each drama is written by a single author, and usually is based on his or her own original idea. It may be broadcast as part of series of single play
