Treatment

Our story is about a young girl who is aged 18 and is going though a lot in her life, with exams; keeping up with her school life and home life. Our story is based on real life situations which most young people are faced with. The name of our single camera production is Stepping into the Light. We thought that this title would suit the story because it indicates to the viewer that this story is about coming out of your shell and standing up for what you think is the right thing to do.

Characters:
Aisha- she is the main character (who is very perky and has a very bad attitude when it comes to her parents)
Sidra- she is Aisha’s Mother (who is very shy and her and her husband hakim have a marriage where he calls all the shots, so this means she is easily persuaded by her husband to do what he thinks is right for his daughter, he is very controlling as a husband

The story is set in an African household, we thought our story would be more effective if we showed our audience a different side of a typical kind of environment that would be normal advertised to the general public and around globally. So this single camera production will be based on perceiving a different type of view on a stereotypical kind of story that our audience would expect, this will make them more eager to watch our short single camera production. Our single camera production has a bit of a twist to it, we tried to come up with a conclusion to our story and we thought the best way to do that would be to have a dramatic cliff hanger leaving the audience wanting to see more; so we decided as a group that we would convey a message that would really question the audience is understanding on life and how precious it is.

Our target audience is mainly aimed at teens, but anyone can watch it. We decided our main target audience would be teens because we think this type of drama would interest our target audience, which would mean that they would want to carry on watching our single camera production which would mean that we get more views and becomes more popular, the more popular our single camera production gets the more sponsors so our crew can carry on making 'Stepping Into The Light'

Overview

A purpose or objective; to make people, and our target audience aware of the situations like the one we are illustrating, happen and need to be taken seriously
·      A target audience; our target audience would have to be girls, who are teenagers
·      Subjects; marriage, life is short, and decision-making
Our single drama called stepping into the light, the target audience of our single drama is teenagers but this storyline is mainly aimed at girls as they can relate to it.   We think that our audience will want to watch this single drama because they will relate to it; also their parents might think about the difficult situations they could put their children, this drama series was also built to make parents and careers aware of the difficult situations they could put their children in; in the near distant future.

There are 3 different types of subjects in our single drama one would be
·      Decision making
We came up with the idea with this being on of the subjects we could have used because in our storyline, the main character and the sub characters a faced with many decisions that they have to face in order to settle an agreement and for things to go back to normal.
·      Marriage
This subject links in with the main storyline, which is to do with a young girl getting forced into marriage at a very young age.
·      Life is too short
We came up with subject when we thought of having the idea of showing our intended audience how sort life can be and that we should make every second count.

Our story has todrov’s theory which tells us that in our story has an
·      Equilibrium
In our story our equilibrium would have to start off with a girl, named Aisha who lives as an only child and is living in a happy and loving environment with her family until it all goes wrong for her

·      Disruption of Equilibrium

One day she over hears her parents talking over the phone and they find out some information that could change their perspective on their daughter’s life, this leads them to make drastic measures; her parents come to the conclusion of her getting married off and staring a new life.  A letter was posted in their letterbox, which showed pictures of her; her father comes across these pictures

·      Recognition of the disruption

Then Aisha finds out that her family know about her being cyber bullied online by random people she doesn’t know, she feels ashamed, this then means that she has to figure out what she should do to convince them not to get her married off, she tries to explain to them that she wants to carry on studying and go into university and starting working.

·      Attempt to repair the damage

She talks to her parents and then her parents decide that she has no choice when it comes to her getting married off, this leads to them getting angry and arguing and creating conflict between the family, this then leads to her running away

·      New Equilibrium

As she is running away, she tries to cross the street, then gets run over by a care. Her parents watch her get hit by the car. This leads to her dying, which creates a new equilibrium.

The conflict in our single drama would have to be the scene when she gets run over by the car, because she is not aware of her surroundings and is upset at the fact that she is being forced to do something she doesn’t want to do by her parents.

The hook of our single drama would be the scene where the girl is arguing with her parents, which leads to them fight and create conflict between them and leads to the girl storming out of the house.

The new information the audience can take away from our single drama would have to be that
·      People should not jump to conclusions and instead to come up with different ways to look at the situation they are in.
·      Life is too short to stress over little things that bring us down, and we shouldn’t take things like family for granted.
·      Our single drama also alerts parents and other audience views that these situations do happen in real life, and we shouldn’t take theses situations lightly.

Events/locations

·      A street- where we will shoot the scene where Aisha’s body is found.
·      We will also use the same street again when the main character Aisha is about to get hit by a car
·      Our main location would be in a household which all the characters are living in

We will also be using different kinds of Props;
·      Fake blood- to emphasize the fact that the main character Aisha has been hit badly and is suffering.

In our single camera production we will also be using different kinds of camera shots, like
  • Mid-shots- of the environment the surroundings to show the targeted audience
  • Long Shots- which show the characters walking, or running towards the camera or away from the camera; either way the audience knows whats happening in each shot
  • Close Up's- of the characters faces, to show the expressions on their faces

This is one of our first locations we used for our first scene. It was based in school where the students go and do work during their own time. The reason why we used this area is because it was colourful and a good location for the scene for the time.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHHH4kflvjB8_HAV5_zfpc1X8ASpqfFs-0XNQl7Vt02CBXobS7fWkqsJAWwb9HYGquW-d3t3k27e5QpIgEpbA4ifbYeMjDxiGfJURbjExgN1rYGxuyOuBuNWY2GU-NbvUhATqFzv93U7k6/s320/l2.jpg

This is the same location from a different angle but the reason why couldn't use this angle is because it wasn't as good as the other angle of filming and also it look quite busy. Other angle of filming and also it looked quite busy.

This is the a little kitchen area in the student 6 form room which we was planning to use but didn't because it got quite busy at times and we won’t able to use it at the times we needed.

This is the location we wanted to use for the first scene but then we decided to relocate as it was surrounded by load of children and we won’t able to hear each other or film without people interfering.

We decided to use the stairs while she leaves to go home but we find it hard to film from the angle, so we decided not to.

Diary Log

In our whole single camera unit we have had different views and opinions from everyone in the group. Our group had various ideas about what we should try and video, we mad many mind maps together (Minha, Warda & Sabeena) then because one of our team members was away me and Minha carried on with this production.
Within our production we kept a log of dates that showed the different tasks completed.

There is a mixture of ideas that I and Minha came up that we both combined together. Sabeena helped us give some ideas as well as doing the idea board layout.
With all the work we have done we did together but in most of the work I did on my own, i shared with my team mates . I uploaded the location and cast photos more understanding of how our video production came about.

Budget Plan

For our single camera production we didn't have a budget as most of our equipment was borrowed from our school for free this was quite lucky for us. as to hire a professional camera would cost around £52.50 for only 3 days. it would work out cheaper to buy a camera and use it for longer then 3 days, as they cost around £200. for other equipment we used within our music video, such as a tripod  we also borrowed theses from our school free of charge. However to hire these normally would cost a little bit, a  tripod to hire would cost £30 for only 3 days a cheaper option for this is to buy one from amazon for only £14. Thanks to our school we saved at least  £132.50.

Task 4

Compare and contrast
Doctor Who is anti realist fantasy drama , this drama is set in parallel universes which change every time a new episode comes on. There are different props used for different episodes depending on where the directors have set the certain episode. Also most of their storyline are based on some fictional characters like the doctor and non fictional characters like the daleks. In doctor who, the directors are clever in using many flashbacks and old stories related to the up coming episode, which is shown at the end of each episode. By showing these flashbacks it enables the audience to understand what has been happening in the previous episodes which is an advantage for the intended target audience.

Eastenders is a realist drama which is based on real life events that happen to people in their everyday lives, in this realist drama each episode leads to a new equilibrium. Eastenders has stories which audience can relate to, so this means that the audience can interact and enjoy watching. In this drama  there are different locations a club, a pub, on the streets and even at some of the characters houses. in this realist drama there are many things that are relevant to the audience, in each episode there are mixed emotions and in each story every characters have their own problems, which need to be solved and sometimes different characters in the story can help solve them. in this realist drama some characters are loved and hated and each episode brings  a new equilibrium that need to be solved.

The difference between “Doctor Who and Eastenders” is that Doctor who is an anti-realist drama that doesn’t relate to the audience lives and on the other hand Eastenders is a realist where is relates to real life events. A difference between Doctor Who and Eastenders is that Eastenders is set on real life situations where as Doctor Who is based on made up equilibrium which has been conjured up by someones imagination. For example, space-ships, aliens, werewolves, vampires.

Task 3

 Task 3- Genre

Period / fantasy drama: Merlin, series 5 is aired on the BBC.

Merlin is a British fantasy-adventure television programme by Julian Jones, Jake Michie, Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps. It began broadcasting on BBC One on 20 September 2008. The show is loosely based on the Arthurian legends of the young wizard Merlin and his relationship with Prince Arthur but differs from traditional versions in many ways. The show is influenced by the U.S. drama series Smallville, about the early years of Superman.
Merlin is a young wizard who arrives in the kingdom of Camelot after his mother arranges for him to stay with the court physician, Gaius. He discovers that the king, Uther Pendragon, has outlawed magic and imprisoned the last Great Dragon deep under the kingdom. The Dragon tells Merlin that he plays an important role: to protect Uther's son, Arthur, who will bring forth a great kingdom. When Merlin meets Arthur, he believes that he is an arrogant bully and Arthur, likewise, has a less than stellar opinion of Merlin. But when Uther's actions cause his ward Morgana to turn against Camelot, Merlin must ally himself with the Once and Future King to save the kingdom.

Drama: Eastenders
Eastenders is a realist TV soap that is based on realist situations in east end of London. The locations used for the showing are a market, a grand pub, boxing club, club, garage, Indian takeaway, cafe and character house and also a local square. These location props make the TV soap much more realistic and relatable as they occur in most areas within London which goes with a normal day to day life of real people. The characters have each got different identities and fictional life’s and families, each characters have human emotions such as happiness, sadness, hatred, love, stress, aggression, joy, betrayal, abuse and complex relationships. Which are relatable to the viewers. It is always continuous. Within the programme there will is more than one narrative, there were 4 narrative 2 main stories and 2 sub stories to go in-between the main stories so that there is always something new to watch.
Period Drama: Downtown Abbey
Downton Abbey is a British-American period drama television series created by Julian Fellows.
The series, set in the fictional Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey, depicts the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the post-Edwardian era — with the great events in history having an effect on their lives and on the British social hierarchy. Such events depicted throughout the series include news of the sinking of the RMS Titanic in the first series; the outbreak of World War I, and the Marconi scandal in the second series; and the Interwar period and the formation of the Irish Free State in the third series. This period drama is set in the past, so that the intended audience can relate to it and find it entertaining to watch, in this time and ear, people where judged by their appearances.

Crime:
My murder report:
During the single camera production of my murder I found out that the director had used a lot of different techniques to grab the audience, so that they would carry on watching the film. For example at the begging of the film the screen is panning across the characters face to create effect and to make the viewers at home get to know the character in order to find out their background. Also during my murder the director shoots the scenes in a realistic way, for example the scene where the main character, shak is meeting his friend, the camera is moving around to create realism and to show the emotion behind their encounter. There is also a wide range of camera shots used during this production, for example the mid-close up’s where not to close to the face but to the point where the audience felt comfortable watching him. The director also used a lot of wide shots showing the surroundings and the sub-urban environment the characters where living in, the director did this to help set a scene to the story and to show the viewers the kind of situation and area the characters where living in. The director also used a lot of small screen titles to show the viewers what the characters where sending each other, this director used this technique because he wants to show the viewers what is being said though text and to show one relationship between characters and another and to show how much they differ from scene to scene.
